King County Archives holds the original marriage certificate indexes dated from 1853 to 1983 and microfilmed copies from 1853 to 1990. In 2002, the county-level certificate form was discontinued, and King County began recording marriage certificates using the state-level form. In 1866, the Legislative Assembly of Washington Territory passed the Act to Regulate Marriages.
